"Petite Ausflug du Sonntag"

The winter in Frankfurt has not been terrible this year.
I don't know if it was the different mood, different path, different people, but the days went by sunny. And cold, which I surely don't mind.
Today the mood was different though. It was sunny, warmer than during the last weeks, Carnival.
After having brunch with some friends and almost about to get back to what everybody was planning for this last Sunday before a new week of work, we pretty much unanimously decided that the day was looking too perfect to waste it not doing something particular. So we came out of our wintery lethargy and decided to head to Aschaffenburg.

Whether you are going to Aschaffenburg or you are just passing by, the Schloss Johannisburg is something that you cannot miss.
I personally love the majesty of this massive castle and its position next to the river. You can just go around it and explore the gardens. Trees and branches are singularly fascinating in winter, although in summer the atmosphere must be even more magical walking among the flowers.

Our walk continued to the city center in the direction of the Park Schöntal, which we really wanted to visit after seeing some beautiful pictures on the internet.
The park is truly nice. Today it was animated by clumps of teenagers celebrating the Carnival by drinking and smoking weed, so the atmosphere was quite particular. Still, definitely worth discovering the ruins, so much curiosity to see what's inside (where of course you are not allowed to enter)!

These were my favorite snapshots of the day, together with some fun ones related to the Umzug, the typical parade for the German Carnival:

Some days are just unplanned and manage to surprise you, making you smile inside.
