Colorful Utah

They say the sky in Utah is bigger and I somehow believe that.

Travelling through the country has been an amazing experience. The red of the rocks, the blue of the sky. It's one of those places that you simply cannot find elsewhere, breathing history and ancient, going slowly at its own pace through humanly imperceptible change.

We spent 5 days driving across Utah. Canyonlands, Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon, Zion.

Moving towards the different stop-overs changed the Utah background in a very interesting way, mainly regarding the color of the stone and the conformation and coloration of the shrubs.

Canyonlands and Arches National Park are just some 10-15 miles from each other, but the landscape is much different – and always breath-taking. The names of the parks do speak for themselves: in the first one you can walk through and on top of multiple vast fascinating canyons and in the second one you can sneak under and in-between (on top is not allowed for security reasons and preservation of nature) rock arches.

Moving east there are Bryce Canyon and Zion Canyon. Once again, nature did not like repetition and preferred to outdo herself creating completely different canyons and landscapes.

Zion National Park was the only park I did not know of while organizing the trip and before leaving. So in the end I did not have expectations, but what I found exceeded my imagination.

Living these stunning places is something particularly special. One of the things that I liked the most apart from exploring paths and heights was learning about their rivers.

When you learn about the river in a park, you are getting to know the park in a deeper way, establishing a deeper connection. The river is often the little mind behind much of what you see in nature and I like to think of the river as the sometime silent and sometime roaring soul of the trees and peaks around me.

After spending 3 days in Zion, we headed to the Grand Canyon, of which everybody hears much about and which surprised us by being nothing like we had in mind.
